This sculpture of butterflies highlights the beauty, diversity and ecological importance of these ubiquitous insects. 20% of species are in Colombia: the most butterfly diverse country in the world. Though some species are large and striking, many are small and elusive. These pieces prolong that ephemeral moment of wonder when we witness a butterfly’s flight and marvel at their wings of wondrous colors and patterns. Wood, a plant fiber material used by humanity for millennia, represents the essence of the earth, while the metallic colors represent its mineral richness. Xylography integrates these two materials through impact.
