For the campesina poet María Isabel Espinosa, the Cauca River is “an extended tear, a cry that has not ended”. She lived on the banks of the river in 2003, a time when Colombia was burning with armed conflict. Shortly after arriving in this region, she saw the first of many corpses dumped upriver by those who wished to erase their traces.
