Name: The olive tree is the color of peace
Size: 90 x 90 cm
Medium: Watercolor, acrylic and collage on fabric

The olive tree is the protagonist of this work. The woman and her child rest in its shadow. They represent the families and generations of people in the mediterranean region who have planted, cultivated, and harvested centuries-old olive groves and those who continue to do so. This scene captures the reciprocity between plants and people that exists in agriculture. The olive tree protects the woman and child, takes care of them and gives them refuge as long as they take care of the olive tree. The scene transmits serenity and hope. That hope which sustains the labor of those who work the land with the yearning for a bountiful harvest. The title of this work is inspired in a line by palestinian poet Mahmoud Darwish in his poem The Second Olive Tree: “The olive tree is the color of peace, if peace needed a color.”
