Name: The soul of the bamboo groves (diptych)
Size: 200 x 200 cm
Medium: Acrylic, collage, and engraving on linen
Year: 2025

This piece is inspired by guadua, a woody bamboo of great size and native to the Americas, specifically Colombia, Venezuela and Ecuador. It is estimated that its use in construction can be traced back 9500 years in this region. Due to its fast growth and high resistance it is an ideal material for edifications and has a myriad of uses. Guadua forests are carbon sinks, they regulate water cycles and prevent soil erosion. These bamboo groves paint the mountains of the tropical Andes in a lime green tone. On the riverbanks, their leaves caress river waters and shake in the breeze. When the canes sway with the wind the its as if the bamboo grove cried in a longing of luminous forests.
