This work overlays the photograph of golden chest ornaments from the Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta with the plastic work “Tiempo Lunar” made in marble, lime and oil paint. These chest ornaments were made by master goldsmiths of the Nahuange period (200 AD – 900 AD) who lived in this mountain range which rises at more than 5000 meters (16,400 ft) above the Caribbean sea.
According to the indigenous peoples who nowadays live in the Sierra Nevada of Santa Marta, goldsmith pieces are sacred entities—offerings to the earth which belong to nature and were looted from their territory since the Spanish invasion.
