The inspiration for this piece are the palmas de cera of the Cocora Valley in Quindío, Colombia. This palms are the tallest in the world. They can reach up to 60 meters in height and live up to 200 years. They are unique palms because they grow at the highest altitudes in the world in the Andean cloud forests and can’t prosper in environments with direct sunlight. This work made me feel like I was entering an ancient and sacred place filled with silence where centuries-old palms have always been there observing everything. The landscape breathes calmly blanketed in ancient expansiveness. The earth and sky whisper in the fog that enables the life of the palms.
