La Laguna de Bachué

The Muisca people believe that a Muisca fucha (woman) named Bachué emerged from the Iguaque lake, in the center of what is now Colombia, and populated the earth giving birth to her people.

In the Muisca worldview, the origin of humanity is in the lake: both in Bachué’s lagoon and in the lagoon from which we all come from when we are in our mother’s womb. Water is our source of life because we all come from it without exception.
